Curriculum

KarateKids (age 4-7) teaches basic blocks, kicks, punches, how to not get hit, coordination drills including basic tumbling, how to train safely, dojo
etiquette, and strength training, and it’s fun! Our goals include learning the following:

  • Sharing/Taking Turns
  • Friendship 

Intro to Karate

White to 9 kyu (Yellow Belt)

Self-paced  –  4 months allowed for completion

Some students complete in 3 months

Meets 2 x per week

Course objectives:

  • Able to name, explain, and demonstrate basics blocks, kicks, and strikes
  • Learn and demonstrate basic class procedures
  • Use of blocks against a free sparring opponent
  • Learn basic information about karate 
  • Basic Wrist Releases
  • Introduction to Kata
  • Basic conditioning exercises for fighting
  • Basic unarmed self-defense
  • This is a basic, stand-alone course for ages 7 through adult who want to understand more about karate, become more fit, and learn basic self-defense

 

Gold Course

9 kyu to 6 kyu (Green Belt)

Self-paced 12 months allowed for completion

Some students complete in 9 months

Add Sparring and grappling classes – Meets 4 classes per week

Course Objectives:

    • Review and build on the Intro Course
    • Add additional blocks, kicks, strikes
    • Flow Drills
    • Free sparring
    • Sanban Kihons
    • Additional Kata
    • Basic grappling
    • Fight conditioning
    • The successful student will be awarded a Green Belt
    • Self paced – 12 months allowed to complete
    • This course requires Intro to Karate as a prerequisite. Successful completion will give the Karateka a Green Belt with a solid foundation in the fighting arts. You will be more physically fit, more confident, able to defend yourself in many situations.

Green Course

6 kyu to 3 kyu (Brown Belt)

Self-paced 15 months allowed for completion

Some students complete in 12 months

Add Kobudo (weapons) classes – Meets 5 classes per week

Course Objectives:

    • Review and build on the Gold Course
    • Add additional blocks, kicks, strikes
    • More complex flow drills IMG_2130a
    • Faster paced free sparring
    • Sanban Kihons
    • Intermediate grappling
    • Additional Kata
    • Composition of Bunkai
    • Introduction to Kobudo with Bo Staff
    • Intermediate fight conditioning
    • The successful student will be awarded a Brown Belt
    • Self paced – 15 months allowed to complete
    • This course requires the Gold Course as a prerequisite. Successful completion will give the Karateka a Brown Belt with a solid foundation in the fighting arts. You will be more physically fit, more confident, able to defend yourself in many situations.

Brown Course

3 kyu to Shodan (Black Belt)

Self-paced 15 months allowed for completion

Some students complete in 12 months

Add Instructor Training – Meets 5 classes per week

Course Objectives:

    • Review and build on the Green Course
    • Add additional blocks, kicks, strikes
    • Even more complex flow drills
    • Realistic paced free sparring
    • Required to compose Sanban Kihons
    • Additional Kata
    • Refinement and expansion of grappling skills
    • Add Tonfa and Sai to Kobudo
    • Intense level of fight conditioning
    • Begin teaching with supervision
    • The successful student will be awarded a Black Belt
    • Self paced – 15 months allowed to complete
    • This course requires the Green Course as a prerequisite. Successful completion will give the Karateka a Black Belt with a solid foundation in the fighting arts. You will be ready to begin a lifetime of growth and development as a Karateka and will have joined the elite few who were willing to work for this achievement.

When we earn a black belt, we know enough to begin training.
